2011 Summer Horse Camps

RIDING CAMPS

#1 - June 13 - 17 (9 am to 12 noon)

#2 - July 18 - 22 (9 am to 12 noon)

Recommended ages: 8 to 15 years

Participants will learn to halter, groom, saddle and ride while exploring other related areas of the horse world such as learning the parts of the horse and tack, selecting and caring for tack, experiencing various styles of riding, kinds of saddles and bridles, and choosing appropriate riding attire.

Fee: $350.00

HORSE CARE AND RIDING

#1- June 20 - 24 (8 am to 12 noon)

#2- July 25 - 29 (8 am to 12 noon)

Recommended ages: 10 to 15 years

This camp provides hands on experience in caring for a horse. Learn the nutritional and health needs of the horse, how to care for injuries, and when to call for veterinary assistance. Lessons in basic ground training -- longeing, showing at halter, trailering -- will be presented. Emphasis in the riding portion is placed on the relationship between horse and rider to develop better responses from the horse due to better communication by the rider. Games and team activities give purpose to riding and a feeling of confidence. Camp concludes with a horse bowl (a team contest.)

PONY CAMP

#1 - August 1 - 5 (10 am to 12 noon)

Recommended ages: 5 to 8 years

This is a 2 hour, five day program tailored to the needs of children who are new to riding. The primary focus is on developing confidence in riding, as well as a love and respect for horses. Related activities include art work, ground activities with horses, and stories.

Fee: $300.00

PARENT PARTICIPATION PROGRAM

#1 - August 1 - 5 (9 am to 12 noon)

As the parent of a child enrolled in Pony Camp, you are invited to participate in the camp activities. You will be involved in learning to halter, lead, groom and saddle your child's horse. During camp, you will be invited to work with your child in his/her activities. You may choose to do this on any or all of the days of camp.
